Frank Ocean

It's been a few months coming but boy, was it worth it. Last night, I saw Frank Ocean at the O2 Brixton Academy and he blew my mind. We got there around half eight (as I'd sneakily googled to see if there was any support - there wasn't) and found a great spot by the sound tech. Accompanied by a suited, very very static band, Frank strolled out in patterned trousers and an oversized chain to raucous appreciation.

He played practically all of his Channel Orange album, along with tracks from the Nostalgia, Ultra EP, with my favourite performances being Novacane, LostThinkin' Bout You, Bad Religion, and a ten-minute long Pyramids (I'm a bit of fan). He even did an acapella precis of the ultimate Swim Good, which had me beaming for hours afterwards.

Notoriously shy, despite being a part of the mad Odd Future collective, Frank barely spoke between tracks and sat for stretches of a time, whipping the crowd into a hot frenzy. His honey-toned vocals were on point and it was great to be able to see him in a venue more intimate than a festival. My friend Johnny remarked that everyone in the crowd had different favourites and so the set was a marvel.

Frank's hot property so see him if you can before he heads overseas again - this week he's at Wireless and T in the Park.
